Hey there everyone. Sorry it's taken me so long to get the next BBML (Bio-Buddies Mailing List) out, but I've had lots on my plate lately. I should be able to get the next BBML list out this weekend (I'd hoped it'd be sooner, but we Bio-Buddies have been very busy, so there's a lot I need to include...) I'll keep y'll posted.
First of all, welcome to all the new comers. There's now a total of 30 of us and growing strong. Wow, this mailing list is more than I had ever imagined.
BBML Volume - Issue and APB explanations.... Volume - Issue will be for information about biodiesel supplies, equipment, etc. and APB will be for urgent information that I might be needing some feed back on. If you want to give feed back, I ask that you use the "Reply to All" button, so that everyone can see the conversation (if you'd like) and know what's going on. Hopefully this will lessen the amount of time it takes for everyone to catch up or give their two cents.
If I need to update or correct an APB I'll send it out as the same title (Okie-Tex BBML (APB-1) Updates or Corrects 1 or 2 or 3 etc. and will proceed with PART 3 or 4 etc.
APB (all posts bulletin) - Part 1
Let us ponder a bit... Here's the scenario, you're wanting to make some BD (biodiesel). We've got all the equipment built and tested, you've gone to Rick's Biodiesel Class and passed with flying colors, and you're ready to get the ball rolling. Now all you need is the ingredients. You look through the BBML to find some of the sources to get what you need. Local the companies, buy the supplies at full price and head home. You get the methanol pumped into your methoxide container and you add the lye. BUT WAIT... you have no oil!!! Yikes. You start off by going out to some of the local restaurants and strike out. You keep trying and still no luck. Finial you find a little mom&pop shop that'll get you 10 - 20 gallons a week. Since that's not near enough you keep looking. Six months down the road you're stopping at 10 locations just to get enough oil to make a couple tanks which will get you back around to start collection again. Wouldn't it be nice to have a good steady source of cheap oil. No running all over the second largest state in the union for a couple gallons here and a couple gallons there.
WELL have we got the thing for you! Just enter you're credit card number below (just kidding)... Rick has a source for $0.20 per gallon of low titration oil (1.9 above base which means it's really good stuff). There's going to be 1000 - 2000 gallons per month available. Here's what is needed.... 4, 250 gallon totes, a 8,000# to 10,000# trailer designated exclusively for collecting this oil, and an extra Blue Harbor Freight Pump or two. Here's the idea.... everyone interested will divide up the cost of buying the four totes ($50 each) and the trailer (we should be able to find a used one cheap). We'll load the 4 totes onto the trailer and get them to Rick's source. They'll fill em up and then we'll notify everyone the oil is in and everyone will meet where ever and load up your barrels from the totes, then just pay the price of the oil. After the initial cost of the totes and trailer, you're looking at $0.70 per gallon of BD for all the ingredients. THAT'S about $2.00 per gallon cheaper than dino right now.
Here's the cost break downs.... if we can get 10 people interested in this, we're looking at $20 from each for the totes and about $100 to $200 from each for the trailer. After that you're talking $0.20 per gallon for as much oil as you want (BTW...[[[by the way]]] that comes out to $11 for a 55 gallon drum or $100 per 500 gallons for the oil). If we can get 20 people that'll half the costs above. If you have a trailer which meets our needs and you'd be willing to sell to the Bio-Buddies please let us know your asking price (it'd have to have a least 2 axles to handle that much weight).
And in the future if anyone wants to get in on this, we could charge them a one time fee of say $75 and use that to keep the trailer registered and maintained.
APB - Part 2
We, Bio-Buddies, need to start looking into buying these ingredients in bulk. Currently you're looking at about $0.50 per gallon of BD for the cost of the methanol and lye. If we could get a bulk discount we could get this price even lower. Some of the BB are wanting to get everyone we can into one room to start talking about stuff like this. Here's the plan ... We need to organize a G2G (get together). Rick's house, December 3rd during his bioclass. While he's teaching, we can be in the back sorting out all the details. Let me know what y'll think. If we can get the majority that can come, will make it official.
If anyone has any comments or suggestions please let us know..........
