Hi everyone,
We thought we'd get started by sending out a list of all the sources we know about plus a few announcements and links we think you might like.
TEXAS:
Lye (NaOH, sodium hydroxide. No KOH, Potassium Hydroxide, at this time)…
1. we found Red Devil Lye 18 oz. at the Sack-n-Save on Camp Bowie and Cherry Lane. It was going for $4.18 including tax and would be a pretty good source if you only need a small amount for getting started with some mini-batches. You can contact Andrew Hefner (a.k.a. Bio-Texas-DFW) if you'd like him to purchase a couple for you and then work out a way to get 'em to ya.
2. Valley Solvents, dallas.citysearch.com/profile/9754562/?brand=smx_yp-nc, has 50 pounds of the beads/pellets for $45 ($0.90 per pound). We would think they have KOH (potassium hydroxide) [[[If anyone happens to call or go buy there, would you please check on the KOH for everyone interested, thanks. You can e-mail Mark or Andrew with the info and we'll send it out with the next BB Issue)]]]. According to one of our Bio-Buddies, they don't require and Haz Mat information, but that doesn't mean that always won't.
3. there are several website chemical companies out there that offer some pretty good deals (as apposed to the Red Devil $3.72 per pound) and some of them offer home delivery (check with them prior to order to verify as some may require a business address for delivery). Please note: we're getting these sources off the biodiesel info.pop forums, so we haven't actually clicked the links and verified the information we found on the post.
www.boyercorporation.com has if for $1.00 per pound
www.chemistrystore.com/Sodium_Hydroxide.htm has if for $1.80 per pound <---verified
Methanol (wood alcohol)… please verify with the source on the prices as methanol changes with the price of natural gas
1. Valley Solvents, dallas.citysearch.com/profile/9754562/?brand=smx_yp-nc, has 55 gallon drums for $108.35 with a $30 barrel deposit and a $7 each time barrel cleaning fee (comes out to $2.65 per gallon for one barrel, $2.38 per gallon on the second barrel, $2.30 per gallon on the third barrel, etc. which 3 drums is 20 - 40 gallon batches, or 800 gallons of BD), but you have to pick it up. According to one of our Bio-Buddies, they don't require and Haz Mat information, but that doesn't mean that always won't.
2. Bill Brzezinski with VP Racing Fuels will DELIVER 55 gallon drums for $132 ($2.40 per gallon), with NO barrel deposit. He also has used steel closed top barrels for $3 each.

Steel & Plastic Drums/Barrels…
1. As mentioned above Bill Brzezinski has used closed top barrels for $3 each. Their exact condition is unknown, but I'll report as soon as I get the 2 I ordered.
2. Cheap O Barrels, 817-307-5286 on Highway 199 (a.k.a. Jacksboro Highway) 10 miles west of Azel as white plastic barrels for $12 each, steel open top barrels with lid and locking ring for $12 each and 250-275 gallon totes for $100 each.
3. Bio-Buddy member Don Flaharity (flairfarms@verizon.net a.k.a. Dirish1) has a source for steel barrels for $10 each, 250 gallon totas for $50 each.
4. Bio-Buddy Rick Vinson (rwvinson@swbell.net a.k.a. toadiesel) has a source for 15 gallon (it maybe bigger or smaller, I can't remember what size he side it was) plastic methoxide containers for $15 each.
Reactor equipment/supplies…
1. Harbor Freight has those blue pumps for $25 each
2. Northern Tool has the same looking pumps for $40 each (I think they actually are bigger inlet and outlets, 1 1/2", and it flows a little more)
3. Bio-Buddy Rick Vinson (rwvinson@swbell.net a.k.a. toadiesel) has a source for the "weld flanges" for attaching a pipe fitting onto a metal tank.
4. Watch Harbor Freight (a.k.a. HF) as they run sales on ball valves and other supplies every once in a while.
