Fire!

Well it happend to me... I lost half of a plastic 35 gal barrel. Ill make a long story short... was done with a batch and was pouring good fuel into my storage tank, spilled some oil on the floor, hands etc... used a t-shirt to wipe my hands and a bath towel to wipe the floor. spread both towels over the trash can outside. somebody needed in the trash can so they threw both towles on top of my "oops" tank (extra water, fuel, stuff on the bott of the tanks) around 1:30pm, I go out to the garage around 4pm to grab some meat from the fridge, and i smell smoke, look out side and my "oops" tanks in on fire. hit it with the garden hose before it melted down to the fuel in the tank. so i search on the other sites and found out that spontaneous combustion of oil soaked rags happens a lot more than we all think. so the point on this post is do not leave a stack of oily towels laying around outside. this happens last week here in Plano when it was only 89deg anybody had or seen this happen?

WOW! I've never even considered a spontaneous fire outside. I thought it took close quarters with no air movement, like in a corner of a shop or a drawer. Thanks for posting this. I will defintely start taking more caution inside and out. Glad you only had a minor loss.
I had a fire(explosion) recently in my processor. It took a full two to three seconds to blow down all of the pressure. I'm thankful that it was quarter inch stainless steel and not a thin little barrel. I now have a light tied into the heating element. Live(?) and learn.
