What titration equipment is everyone using?
Where did you get it?
What kinda luck are you having with it?
Would you recommend it?

I am using the smallest Gladware plastic cup to put the oil and the alcohol in, and syringes to measure. Not as fancy as Rick's setup but I have not messed up a single batch yet. It also costs a few bucks vs. $60 or more for a nice titration set.

Dang I never thought of using syringes. We have several around here already and millions of baby food jars.

Where is everyone getting the titration alcohol and red pH drops (whatever they're called)?

I use some glass dessert cups I got at a local discount garden store. They were cheap, and they're tough. I dropped one on the tile floor while washing it out one day. As usual I was trying to grab it as it was going and ended up throwing it about 10 feet . I was amazed that it bounced three times and didn't even chip. They are a little too shallow for perfection, but so far I've had no trouble with them. I use turmeric as my indicator. It's not too hard to find (I got mine at Albertsons) in stores with a big spice section. It's more accurate than swimming pool indicator, and cheaper than phenolphthalein. I dip a little bit out with the handle of a spoon and drop into the glass before I add the alcohol. A tiny bit will do but there is no worry about the amount. I buy 90+% rubbing alcohol at WallyMart. I don't think the 70% stuff is as good for titrating. For measuring, I use some little needle-less syringes I got at the grocery store. I am drooling over one of those self-filling titration gizmos, though. I found one for about $45, but that's a lot of money right now. My biggest problem with titrating is getting the dilute titration caustic mix right. When measuring small amounts of NaOH or KOH, it soaks up water from the air as you are measuring, so the weight is changing continuously. You need to be very precise and that makes it tough to get it right. I mixed up 3 liters with 3 grams of caustic, which helps some, but I still have no confidence that it is right. Still, the process seems to work acceptably, so maybe I'm just being a worry-wart.

I tried to go back and edit this, but it won't take. I dip turmeric with the handle of S-p-o-o-n, not a sthingy. Something weird is going on here, that it always get translated to sthingy. Even my re-post got it translated into sthingy and I had to spell it out with dashes.

The "spoon issue" is fixed. This site came preconfigured with a list of censored words. The list is really funny. Anyway the site was configured to catch partial words and replace then with other words like thingy. In your case it was catching the part of spoon that comes after the s. I changed the settings and the site is no longer catching partial censored words. You can spoon all you want now... ;D
