I get my methanol from Parker Solvents in fort smith, AR. They are located on wheeler ave. which is the truck route. The number is 479-785-2321. The last I bought was $1.65/gallon. It will be that price for a while, but don't know how long. I bought a drum and it was $90 + tax.

I talked to Parker Solvents yesterday(10-24-2006). Current price is $2.00/gal. If you don't have a barrel there is a $30.00 drum price.

I ended up going to Ft.Smith on the 25th. (3 hour drive). My local sources are racers and their season is over. Got to visit with daughter and G-Kids. ;D They only live about 20 minutes from Parker Solvents. I bought two drums of methanol @ $2.00/gal. I also bought 2.5 gallons isopropanol for doing soap tests @ $6.50/gal.(sure beats $1.89 for 12 oz.) They also have K-1 and about any kind of solvent you can think of. They seem to be really nice folks to deal with. Clint

What is the purity on the isopropanol?
I'm still trying to hunt down a source for 90-100% (I think the stuff in the store is 70% or less which is supposed to work).

The man said it is 99%. I could probably get my daughter to pick up five gallons for me and bring it Dec.2nd if enough people are interested. Everyone could bring their own container and we could just split it up. I could get more or less depending on how many people are interested. Just reimburse actual cost. Let me know. Clint

<---- interested, what kind of price we looking at for 5 gallons (I know 5 gallons would last 2 or 3 lifetimes, but I'm just trying to get an idea to know how much for 5 people it would come out to be)?

I bought 2.5 gallons @ $6.50 per = $16.25 +$1.51 sales tax = $17.76. Five gallons would be $35.52. We don't have to get that much, I was just throwing out numbers. I bought it mainly for doing soap tests since it takes 90cc for each test and I sometimes test a batch four or five times. Bad news -- it worked real well on titration but not so good on the soap test. The change in color is very subtle when using bromophenol blue. I don't have a lock on it yet. There is a change, but not the bright yellow like you get with IsoHeet. I plan to do some more tests. I'll get back to you if or when I'm more comfortable with it. Clint

Sounds real good. I'm still interested.
Let's plan on getting at least a gallon and either I can pay you now (however you want), or I can bring the cash with me on Dec. 2nd.
$6.50 per gallon sounds like a really good deal.

I went to Salisaw yesterday to get the grandkids for the weekend. Since it is so close to Ft Smith I figured it was a good time to resupply on methanol. Their current price is $2.25/gal for methanol and $6.00/gal for isopropanol.

I stopped at Parker Solvents in Ft Smith today on my way home from Kansas City to get some methanol. The current price is $1.65 per gallon. They seemed to think that the price might stabilize there. Hard to figure with all other petro products going up. Bad news? . . . . . I only had one empty drum with me. [/img]
